I am an AI Researcher with primary interests in Natural Language Processing. I am currently interested in AI Safety, Alignment, Reasoning and AI Content Detection. I work as a Senior ML Engineer at Bloomberg logoBloomberg Law where I focus on AI Safety in the Legal domain. I am also a Ph.D. student at NJIT NJIT logo. I am based out of New York USA flag.

Previously, I was an Applied Scientist at Amazon logoAmazon Alexa AI (2017-2023) where I had the opportunity to work on various NLU problems ranging from semantic parsing, multi-lingual modeling to tackling the bias and fairness issue in machine learning systems.

I received my Masters from Georgia Tech logoGeorgia Tech advised by Professor Le Song, focusing on Knowledge-Base Question Answering where I explored techniques such as Memory Networks and Graph-Embeddings. I also received the Donald V Jackson fellowship for outstanding Masters students.

Prior to grad school, I worked as an engineer at Bloomreach where I worked on clickstream data processing and search relevance. I obtained my Bachelors in Computer Science from IIT Ropar logoIIT Ropar advised by Professor Apurva Mudgal on Robot Localization. During undergrad, I was an intern with the Google logoGoogle Summer of Code program and was later voted as a top-level committer for the open‑source project Apache Hama Hama logo.

I am originally from Northern India India flag. I spent my early childhood close to forests on India-Nepal border. Before starting my Computer Science journey, I wanted to be a physicist. In addition to my research interests, I love to cook 🍳, bike 🚴, read 📚, learn new songs on the piano 🎹 (brute-force), and occasionally travel ✈️.

I have more ideas than the time and energy to bring them to fruition. I am primarily an empirical researcher who tries to ground their research in theory. I am mainly interested in doing fundamental research that is useful instead of chasing fads. I can work on a problem for a long duration of time. Whether you’re interested in collaboration (as equals, mentee, or mentor) or just want to discuss the math behind machine learning or the research meta-process and living a good life, let’s talk!
